Below you'll find the wholly-remarkable (if only for the curiousity of why I wrote it down in the first place) ramblings of a, well... er, uhm, whatever I am. Yes, there are a lot of quizzes - consider it self-psychoanalysis... but you'll also find some gems of wisdom from yours truly.

Well, "gems of wisdom" a rough phrase meaning "rant against idiocy."

PLEASE NOTE SOME ENTRIES ARE LISTED (unfortunately) "FRIENDS ONLY," as a little more of my life has been spreading around the Academy than I thought was appropriate. ;-) If you think I could be a better person by adding you to my friends list, drop me a line. By doing so, you'll get the juicy, disturbing, frightening, and I'd-frankly-not-like-to-get-fired bits that are left out of the public version. :-)

In any case, remember the rules:
1) Read and comment all you want, but if you start throwing sarcasm my way, make sure you're prepared to drown in it.
2) I'll say some things that will offend you. I use LJ as a way to be honest with the world (one of the few venues I have available to me), and I can't afford to PC my way around the more thorny bits.
3) If you can't handle lots and lots of News from the World of Science - slowly back away now.

Fortunately, I started LJ late enough that I could retrace and add tags. As I add more to the journal, I'll include them here... so feel free to jump directly to what interests you.

I realize that Don LaFontaine's voice was ubiquitous, but until I actually looked at his creds I had ~no~ idea that the man was Omnipresent. Geebus.

In any case, I stumbled upon (literally ;-)) a video of him that I found amusing. If you happen to be a fan of the late LaFontaine, or just like campy humor, you might want to take a look (only a few minutes long):

[info]bruisedbuthappy showed this to me about a year and a half ago... and strangely, it has taken me this long to post it. Hmm. (<== a bit slow, sometimes)

In any case, if you haven't seen this... well, you won't be able to say you haven't seen it anymore. Yeah. So there.

It is safe for work, but you will get some odd looks if the sound is turned up. And the sound *really* needs to be turn on for this one or it'll seem, uhm, silent.

In any case, I now present to you, a Dramatic Reading of a ~Real~ Breakup Letter.

Take this as a life lesson, boys and girls. Do NOT write *anything* when you are emotionally upset. Because someone will only use it to embarrass the living sh*t out of you. FOREVER.

I may, as usual, be the last one to know about this... and I'll leave out the embedded video to save those who have already seen it.

But I now owe [info]lordlothair copious amounts of alcohol on his b-day this Monday for bringing it to my attention.

After watching Act I and Act II (and Act III if you hit it in time), you'll owe him alcohol as well.

Apparently, after this Sunday, it will only be available on the upcoming DVD, so get to it quickly. If you haven't seen it, give it a few minutes... it's WELL worth it.

News/Epiphanies of the Week:

1) The Basement is finally getting cleaned. I know ppl who say their basements are complete ~horrors~. I've seen their basements. I'm embarrassed to let them see mine. 6 cats + 3 lazy people + 4 people's stored belongings + 1 washer/dryer set + 4 years of inactivity + 2 minor floods + 1 major flood = the 1 one place which even *I* actively avoid. It's gross. >.<

2) Getting a campaign back up and running after a little more than a year. Or at least trying. It's hard to find ppl who have even heard of Harn-master, not to mention willing to put up with its hyper-realistic rules set. Of course, this could be another 30+ hour of prep-work that goes *poof* after a session or two. At least my particular neurosis of "Must Have World Make Sense" works out well in this arena. No one is gonna accuse me of having an illogical campaign world. ;-P

3) First day for faculty starts up in a little over three weeks. I can't say I got a lot of productive work in this summer, although I can't say I'm disappointed for that either. Productive work over a summer = wasted summer IMHO. :-) I'm uber-productive 10 months out of the year: If they aren't gonna pay me for the other 2, then I don't feel much motivation... besides, 2 months of 24/7 video-games doesn't really strike me as a ~bad~ thing.

4) [info]lordlothair needs to stop throwing girls in my direction. My weakness for broken-strays gets me in trouble far more often than it helps, as my brain has been going in bad bad directions in this arena as of late. People always point out the perks of being Poly. No one ever mentions the fact that unless your plate is full-to-bursting, you're almost always lonely.

5) I'm on step 4 of 6 of getting a second job in the fall. If I can wrangle a simple "one night a week" teaching at ::shudder:: Ivy Tech this year it would go a long, long way towards:
a) a new car
b) medical stuff for [info]littlebella1980
c) driveway for the house
d) new windows
Sadly, that's probably the order of precedence. No new car means that soon I won't be able to provide b, c, or d.
If I don't go for the job route, I'm seriously considering looking into the Einstein Fellow program in Washington DC. 60k for 10 months work. Only about 1 in 500 applicants get in, but hopefully my quals and background will overshadow my non-standard approach to life as far as Uncle Sam is concerned. Okay, it probably won't, but at least I'd get the satisfaction of making them tell me that. ;-)

Oh, and [info]monstermommy found an interesting meme, for those who aren't on her LJ. Normally these little tidbits are little more than interesting-yet-ephemeral curiosities. This one could actually be useful to someone. :-)

Okay, I couldn't resist.

I was sitting here thinking "HOW CAN SOMEONE MAKE A 'BEST OF 80'S CARTOON THEME-SONGS" AND NOT INCLUDE JOHNNY QUEST??

And then the quiet part of my soul reached up and brained me with a clue-by-four. "Ah, 70s," I replied.

But JQ had it all.
Homoerotism.
Ubiquitous racism.
Guns & Death.
Satanic cults.
Terrorism.

I'm all for the (perhaps unintentional) gay couple. And guns & death are all cool. ;-) I realize that the times were a-different (I was raised in said times), and the racism/violence were just a part of normal life. But I'm still shocked that family groups weren't ~screaming~ at the tops of their lungs against the more liberal aspects of the show.

Of course, parents probably never watched the show with their kids either. Good for us that they didn't.

In any case, my vote for "best cartoon theme" EVER.

Opening Credits

Closing Credits

And JQ had "bum! Bum! BUM!" mummies & "clik-clik-clik" robot spiders! Makes me want to go download all the episodes!

___

You know, I'd put more relevant things on your friends-page, but there's so much crap going on in the world, I figure that cartoons will help relieve the tension.
Or it'll get you so irritated with me that you'll show up in Muncie to tear me into tiny pieces... which will relieve the tension.

So it's all good.

Just wasted reminisced through 10 minutes of "the greatest cartoon themes of the 80s".

I don't necessarily agree with the list, but it did remind me of shows I used to really really like but had since (blissfully) forgotten about. ;-)

Okay, I didn't like Jem.

And frankly, I never did see "Defenders of the Earth"... but [info]lordlothair is in it! (although they misspelled his name)

I only include the vid for those of appropriate age to meander down memory lane.
(Warning: These were made in the 80s, remember? Don't watch if you have epilepsy. :-P)

Uhm, bypass unless you are a glutton for punishment...

Alright, I'll admit, I still think Galaxy Rangers is one of the best shows ever written for TV. :-P
Really.
It was cool.
And people died.
And guys got *kicked in the face*.
And the theme rocked.
And there was character development.
And it was the first (or one of the very first) cartoon to use computer graphics to aid in production.

And "My Little Pony" replaced it. >,<
I ~hate~ "My Little Pony."

One day I'll put up vids (I know you all are just slavering with anticipation) of my favorite childhood cartoons. I hope you like Ookla the Mok, Robotic 1-eyed spiders (clik-clik!), and ~Tundro, the Tremendous~. A lot.

Especially Tundro, the Tremendous.

I'd run around and head-butt everything in the house (especially my sisters) on Saturday morning, just to prep myself for the show. :-)

Internet cookies to the first who can name the show Tundro was on. (NO INTERNET PEEKING :-P)

Yet another French-made clip...
...I'm not sure who I even am any more!

I still like the opening scene from Casino Royale, but perhaps its just because it was the first *real* free-running I had ever seen...
...or it was because the free-runner being chased is played by Sebastien Foucan, one of the progenitors of modern free-running as a 'sport'.

Hmmm... Foucan is also French.
Yikes!

In any case, both of these are nice action scenes.
